Candle Making Classes: Everything You Need to Know

Brown glass bottles for candle making setup

When the weather turns cold and it’s time to find indoor activities, a candle making class is the perfect combination of cozy environment + learning a new skill that will help you keep the winter blues at bay.

I love welcoming guests into my Bay View studio to play and learn about a skill that makes for a perfect new hobby or maybe even your next business venture.

In the past, I’ve reserved candle classes for pre-organized small groups that reach out to me and populate the spots themselves. Now, I’m opening up classes to individual registrations.

Which means if you’ve had your sights on a candle class but don’t want to go to the trouble of coordinating schedules with the group chat, you’re in luck!

You can book now here: Candle Making Class

Thinking you want to book a candle making class but not sure what to expect? Here’s everything you need to know about candle classes at the BUSHYL studio.

Who is a candle class for?

Candle making classes are a great activity for a wide range of groups. I love hosting a class filled with friends who are celebrating a bridal shower, a bachelorette, a birthday, or a retirement. It’s the perfect way to hang out in a beautiful, unique environment while learning a new craft.

It’s also a great team building experience for co-workers who want to step outside of the traditional, forced method of building camaraderie and instead want to learn something that they can actually use as a hobby for years to come.

What happens in a candle making class?

A candle making class at Bushyl lasts approximately two hours. I usually allow the group to arrive and get settled for the first 15 minutes, then we spend the next 45 minutes mixing your custom scent and pouring the candle, and the last hour is a relaxed hangout for you and your crew while the candles cool enough for you to take home.

Mixing scents

The most exciting part of our candle making class is the scent mixing portion. So much of what makes a candle successful is the fragrance notes.

In this class, you’ll get a curated selection of premium fragrance oils and my expert explanation of how to mix your first scent. It will give you a chance to hone in on your personal preferences while reliving the fun of high school science labs.

SOCIAL HOUR

Here’s the thing about candles: they take some time to cool. Usually that time is about 45min-1hr. The good news is that you’re welcome to hang out in one of the multiple lounge areas of the studio while you wait, OR you can head down to one of the great options for grabbing a drink in the building: Twisted Path Distillery, New Barons Brewery, Jaliscos, Component Brewings, and more.

You can go have a drink or two and then come back when the candles have cooled and are ready for pickup.
