Seasonal decor was a staple of my childhood. My mother and grandmother had boxes and boxes of trinkets, towels, and scented candles that set the tone for Easter, Halloween, Christmas and beyond. I have countless memories of closely examining the figurines of mice in ghost costumes, bunnies made of faux grass, and snowmen in top hats wedged cozily against the couch throw pillows.
When it comes to my own home, I’m always looking for ways to celebrate the change in seasons not only for myself, but for my family. There’s a bit of magic in pieces you only enjoy for a couple of months before you pack them up to hibernate until next year.
I’ve scoured some of my favorite boutiques and creators to compile this list of Halloween decor that brings me joy and puts me in the mood for cider, 90’s fall movies, and wrapping up in a cozy blanket for a backyard bonfire.
Small Broom from URSA
I’m assuming it’s some past lifetime as a witch that draws me to these decorative brooms because I can’t resist the way they look and the mystical charm they add to a space. The dainty proportions of this one from URSA make me want to buy a dozen and put of a grid of them in my dining room. I love that they’re versatile enough to hang on the wall or lay on an entry table vignette.
Halloween Garland from The House That Lars Built
A decor project that the kids can get in on is a dream at this stage of life. This garland template isn’t just cute and affordable, it’s a great way to get the kids to feel connected to seasonal changes. Our whole family is BIG into Halloween and this project celebrates our love of crafts and our love of October all in one go. I can’t wait to show them this one.
3D Printed Vase from Neighborly
Fun fact: long before Milwaukee was on my radar for putting down roots, I lived in Chicago…on Milwaukee Avenue. Love that the universe knew what was coming for me before I did.
You know what else is on Milwaukee Ave in Chicago? Neighborly, a home and gift store full of happy, colorful vibes (and some Bushyl products as well!) I’m in love with this 3D printed vase and the way the pattern is reminiscent of a wheat field blowing in the wind. I think the idea of rotating out small pieces like vases, mugs, and throw pillow covers can make such an impact in the seasonal energy of your home without taking up much storage space.
Dried Pods from Roxanne’s Dried Flowers
You know that rush of adrenaline that comes when you glance across the street at a storefront and you can tell from the window display that you’ve hit jackpot? On a trip to Pittsburgh last year, I felt that exact way when I saw Roxanne’s Dried flowers for the first time.
True to its name, Roxanne’s has the most stunning collection of dried flora, along with carefully curated botanical-themed gifts and home goods. Personally, I’m a dried flower fan year-round (perhaps because I can’t keep any living plants…alive) but they’re especially appropriate for the colder months and a way to shift your home into fall-mode in a way that doesn’t feel over-the-top. These mahogany pods are the ideal mix of spooky and chic in the perfect earthy color palette. Bonus points if you pop them in the Neighborly vase!
Butterfly Wall Decor from Momo
The controlled chaos of these black butterflies is mesmerizing. I could (and have) stare at photos of them for hours. There’s something so Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children about it. The delicate aesthetic of butterfly wings in a jet black is basically the epitome of what I’m going for when it comes to Halloween decor. Somehow the combo really captures the romanticism of a time of year that celebrates the way that our fears make us feel alive.
Whatever items you choose to display in your home, I think what truly matters most is the delight they bring and the memories they help to foster.
Happy haunting,
Steph
